Gospel Reading Mark 10:17-27

The good and practising young Jew who came to Jesus seeking to know how to ensure eternal life, was earnest indeed. But he turned down the invitation for a greater commitment because the cost was too high. He was saddened at the prospect of giving up his wealth. What is it that prevents me from being totally committed to Christ? Do I allow my possessions or positions to possess me that I am no longer free to heed the invitation of Jesus? A serious soul-searching is a must. Lord, free my heart from all fetters that hold me back from following you. Do not let money, material things or fame ever enslave me.
