Peter gave the right answer to the question Jesus put to the disciples: "Who do you say I am?" Peter passed the interview and got the job of rendering the service of authority in the church. Peter's answer was not his own. Jesus knew it and told him so. The answer was prompted by "God the Father in heaven." To exercise authority in the Church as intended by Jesus, i.e., as a call to serve, remains too big a challenge today as it was for Peter and his immediate successors. It is only human and natural even for Church leaders to desire to have control over others - the temptation to command rather than serve. Lord, spare our Pope, Bishops and Priest from such temptation.
